Introduction
The Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, in
consultation with Stoke on Trent City Council, established a Governance
Commission to look into the future governance arrangements for Stoke on
Trent City Council in October 2007. One of the recommendations of the
Governance Commission’s report was the establishment of a Governance
Transition Board to oversee the development of an action plan and to
monitor progress against that action plan.
In 2009, the Terms of Reference for the Board were updated and the
Governance Transition Board became known as the Governance and
Performance Transition Board.
The Governance and Performance Transition Board is made up of 17 members
who were appointed by the Secretary of State and is chaired by Professor
Michael Clarke CBE MA DL.
The overall objective of the Governance and Performance Transition Board
is to support the good governance of the City of Stoke on Trent and to
assist and hold Stoke on Trent City Council to account for the
implementation of the remaining 13 recommendations of the Governance
Commission for Stoke on Trent.
